The Return of the San Diego County Open
ONTARIO, California – After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the Southern California PGA is proud to announce the return of the San Diego County Open. The tournament is set to be contested on October 13-15, 2020 at Enagic Golf Club at Eastlake, the official host golf course for the Championship, in Chula Vista, California.
First contested back in 1929, the San Diego County Open dates as one of the oldest golf tournaments in the state of California. Year in and year out, the Open consistently boasted strong player fields and has served as a springboard for many professionals on their path to the PGA Tour. Notable past Champions consist of golf legends Sam Snead (1943), Billy Casper (1953, 1954), Phil Rodgers (1959), and Mark Wiebe (1982). The tournament was last contested in 2001 at Steele Canyon Golf Club with four-time PGA Tour winner Scott Piercy claiming the victory.
The effort to bring back the famed San Diego County Open was accomplished with collaboration from Enagic Golf Club at Eastlake and has committed to host and support the tournament starting in 2020 through 2022. The 54-hole Championship will feature a field size of 132 players, comprised of both professionals and amateurs. In addition to hosting, Enagic has generously pledged to be the title sponsor and have added $10,000 to the professional purse. Thank you to Hironari Ohshiro, President and CEO of Enagic along with Neil Finch, PGA, Vice President and COO of Enagic Golf Club at East Lake for helping to make this three-year partnership and the renewal of the San Diego County Open Championship a reality.
